30 Best #TrumpBookReport Responses – Twitter Case Study

Donald-Trump-Book-Report

When Politics Meets Book Nerds, and Hilarity Ensues

Three of my favorite things came together last night with the third (and final) presidential debate:

Politics, literature, and social media.

Of all of the politically-charged Twitter memes to come out of last night’s debate, I was surprised and pleased to awaken this morning to #TrumpBookReport, a series of Tweets that simply imagine how Donald Trump would report on various classic works.

You guys – this is what Twitter was made for – rapid response snark by clever nerds.

Antonio French

The meme was started, seemingly accidentally, by Antonio French, who is running for Mayor of St. Louis, Missouri, who posted this:

What began with his simple (yet clever) observation during last night’s debate soon became the # 2 trending topic on Twitter, a position it held not just late last night but also into this morning.

The meme was covered by media including The Huffington Post, Vogue, and Mashable, as well as featured on the morning television show “The View.”

Beyond the fleeting entertainment offered by the hashtag, its lasting legacy may very well be the making of Mr. French’s political career, as he is far more famous today than he was yesterday, having received widespread positive national press.
